Karen Shakhnazarov

Born July 8, 1952 in the USSR in the city of Krasnodar. In 1975 graduated from the directing department of VGIK (All-Soviet State Institute of Cinematography).

Karen Shakhnazarov’s films have been honored with various international and national prizes and awards; twice participated in the contest of the Cannes Film Festival, twice were nominated for the Oscar Academy Award, represented the USSR and Russia at many other international film festivals.

Karen Shakhnazarov is also an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts, a member of the European Film Academy, and an honorary Doctor of Humanities of St. Olaf College (Northfield, Minnesota, USA).
