Shooting near the golf course where the tycoon played, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh arrested
Donald Trump may have been the target of what the FBI is calling “an apparent assassination attempt.”
Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was apprehended on September 15 after shots were fired in front of Trump’s own West Palm Beach golf course in Florida. Just nine weeks ago, the Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election survived an assault during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The gunman then fired from a rooftop near where Trump was speaking. This time, the attacker was aiming at bushes edging a field about 400 meters away from Trump.
According to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Ric Bradshaw, after firing several shots, the man fled in an SUV, discarding the rifle. He also left behind two backpacks, a telescope, and a GoPro action camera. The man was stopped by law enforcement officers from a neighboring county.
Shortly after the shooting, the former president’s campaign office announced that “Trump is safe after the shooting near him.” Trump himself stated: “I’m safe, and I’m fine. Nothing will stop me, I will never give up.”
Called a “militaristic fanatic” by various media outlets, he wrote posts on social media in support of Ukraine and also expressed a desire to recruit soldiers for Kiev.
