Another Call For Peace From Pope Francis

Pope Francis has issued a new call for peace in the Middle East.

In a letter addressed to European rabbis gathered at the Vatican, he explained that the means to achieve peace is dialogue, not weapons. The letter was delivered directly by the Holy Father, who explained that he was unwell and therefore preferred “not to read the speech, but to convey it to you so that you can pass it on.”

The content was transmitted by the Italian economic newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore: Francis argues that the Word of God “directs our steps precisely towards seeking others, towards acceptance, towards patience; of course, not to a sudden surge of revenge and the madness of military hatred… Not weapons, not terrorism, not war, but compassion, justice, and dialogue are adequate means for building peace.”

Also on Sunday, November 5, in the Angel of the Lord prayer, the Pope asked for a ceasefire, particularly emphasizing the importance of protecting the many suffering children.

“I keep thinking about the serious situation in Palestine and Israel, where so many people have died. Please stop, in the name of God: cease fire! I hope that every opportunity will be used to entirely avoid the conflict escalation, to treat the wounded, and to deliver aid to the people of Gaza, where the humanitarian situation is very serious. Release the hostages immediately. There are also many children among them, let them return to their families! Yes, let’s think about the children, all the children participating in this war, as well as in Ukraine and in other conflicts: this is how their future is being killed. Let’s pray for the strength to say “enough is enough.”
