Artificial Intelligence: EU Approves AI Law

The European Parliament approved its “negotiating position on the law on artificial intelligence.”With 499 votes in favor, 28 against, and 93 abstentions, this is the first explicit step towards a law that must now go through discussions with individual states and the Council in order to arrive at a final draft.

The Law on Artificial Intelligence aims to limit the use of this technology; it particularly contains a complete ban on remote biometric monitoring in real time. In general, the EU wants artificial intelligence to correspond to the union’s values in regards to control, security, privacy, and non-discrimination.

As for the GPT chat, it was determined that it must meet the criteria for transparency, so it could be clear when the content was created by artificial intelligence, in order to prevent the spread of illegal content and fake news.
