Cuba Also Wants to Join BRICS

With the expansion in early 2024, the BRICS+ group now includes 10 countries, with over 30 more applications submitted for membership

Cuba wants to join BRICS, a group comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, which recently expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran.

This was announced by Cuban Foreign Minister Carlos Pereira. “Cuba has officially requested to join BRICS as a ‘partner country,’ and a letter to this effect has been sent to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He now presides over the group that is consolidating as a key player in global geopolitics and as the hope of the countries of the South,” Pereira wrote on X social media. A few days ago, Azerbaijan also confirmed its interest in joining.

Russia will host the BRICS+ summit in Kazan from October 22-24, which will also be attended by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel. President Putin on September 12, during a security meeting with BRICS members in St. Petersburg, reported that 34 countries have already expressed their desire to join the association.
