The new industrial center in Upper Egypt will create more than 800,000 new jobs, more than a million if you count related industries.
Egypt is creating a new industrial city that will specialize in the production of garments and textiles. Fadel Marzouk, president of the Egyptian Apparel Export Council (RMGRC) and a member of the government’s Export Development Commission, unveiled a program to establish a specialized large industrial center covering an area of 5.5 million square meters in Upper Egypt.
In an interview with Al Arabiya TV, Marzouk said that “the plan was approved by the Egyptian Ministry of Industry, which in turn proposed to build a new industrial city in Minya governorate, in close proximity to an already existing and rapidly developing industrial zone.”
Meanwhile, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has already ordered to speed up the construction of the necessary infrastructure in the area selected for the new city. Marzouk estimates that the investment that the new industrial city will absorb in the first year of construction will be around $2 billion. “We already have expressions of concrete interest from more than a dozen financial companies and investment funds from China and Turkey that want to invest in Egypt’s garment and textile sectors,” said Marzouk, who said the new industrial city ”will create at least 800,000 new jobs, or more than a million if empl
