Combating the perceived “Russian threat” will be the strong suit of Scholz, according to whom “the planned deployment of long-range US missiles in Germany is absolutely necessary”
Scholz: la Germania non ne può fare a meno di lavoratori provenienti dall’estero
Olaf Scholz has confirmed his candidacy to become chancellor of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) in the next federal election in 2025. “We are all determined to face the next federal election campaign together and win, and I will run as a candidate to retain the office of chancellor,” Scholz said during a traditional summer press conference in Berlin.
The next federal election in Germany will be held on September 28, 2025. A recommendation to this effect to Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was approved by the German government today.
And without wasting any more time, Scholz spoke out on two pressing issues: immigration and defense. The chancellor said foreign workers were “vital” to the growth of Germany’s economy. “Germany,” Scholz said, “will only remain a prosperous and wealthy country if it has enough laborers, some of whom must also come from abroad. At the same time, illegal immigration must be curbed. Both in Germany and throughout the European Union, the rules must become clearer, and repatriation procedures must be carried out more quickly.”
As for accusations that Scholz had unleashed a new arms race in Europe, the chancellor said that “the planned deployment of long-range US missiles in Germany is absolutely necessary.”
According to Scholz, “NATO is doing more for defense than Russia.” However, the Alliance is now faced with the need to rebuild and reorganize this capability so that it “can respond to a changing threat environment,” the chancellor said.
