Iran – USA: Next Talks to Take Place in Rome

Italian government confirmed: talks set for April 19

The next round of talks between Iran and the United States will be held in Rome. This was announced by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, confirming information previously published by Axios.

“We received a request from Oman, which is acting as a mediator, and gave a positive response,” Tajani said, as reported by AGI news agency. “As always, we are ready to host meetings that can lead to positive results, in this case on the nuclear issue.”

On April 12, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Special Representative for Middle East Affairs Steve Witkoff held the first “indirect” talks. They were held in Oman and were the highest-level dialog between the two countries since 2015. A second phase of talks is now expected, which Araghchi said will also be mediated and will focus on the nuclear issue and current sanctions.

“Rome reaffirms its status as the capital of peace and mediation. This is not the first time that meetings of this kind have been held in our country. We are ready to do what is necessary and will continue to support all negotiations that can lead to a solution to the nuclear issue as well as to peace,” Tajani concluded.
