Kazakhstan, the largest and most developed former Soviet republic in Central Asia, wants to become “an active player in the global artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem” and “encourages other countries to cooperate in areas ranging from scientific research to the development of ethical standards.”

This was stated by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev (pictured), who spoke at a meeting of experts on the current state and prospects of AI development during his working visit to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

Tokayev also announced the creation of the International Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence, which will work under his leadership. Tokayev emphasized that artificial intelligence represents one of the “main driving forces of modern progress,” capable of radically transforming the global economy.

“Kazakhstan is taking significant steps to create a solid foundation for the advancement of artificial intelligence, paying special attention to the formation of an institutional framework, appropriate infrastructure, and the development of human capital,” said the Central Asian head of state, according to whom “…the new council will become a strategic platform for dialog and exchange of views with world-class experts.” The new entity will bring together engineers, researchers, and entrepreneurs to develop national AI policy recommendations and strengthen international collaboration.
