It is one of the most important mobility models in the world
A maxi-mobility restructuring project in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, is nearing completion. The system will be based on a new metro, which Saudi Transportation Minister Saleh Al-Jasser explained in an interview with Al-Arabiya, explaining that this will happen “within a few weeks.” In fact, the only thing missing is the Riyadh City Royal Commission inspection, but everything should be ready by early 2025 at the latest.
Al-Jasser explained that the metro is an “exceptional and historic project” for the city. It is a plan that, when completed, will include 6 lines for 176 km of development and 85 stations and will be integrated with the road mobility system through buses (24 lines over 1000 km and 776 stations), a mobile network important for the public sector, in a city of 7.6 million inhabitants.
Contracts for construction of the facilities were awarded in 2013 for a total of $22.5 billion. Contractors include US construction company Bechtel Corp, Spain’s Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas, and Italy’s Webuild and Ansaldo STS.
