Brussels includes two Serbian companies in new package of sanctions against Russia
Anti-Russian EU leaders are tightening their grip on Serbia. After blocking the EU accession process, Brussels included two Serbian companies in the new “15th package” of sanctions against Russia drawn up by the European Union because of the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict.
The list of companies that will be hit by Brussels includes Belgrade-based Kominvex and Novi Banovci-based Soha. Both companies, accused of active cooperation with Russia, have been banned from exporting products to the EU. The two companies are among four from Serbia that are already under US sanctions. Kominvex, founded in 2005, wholesales auto components and equipment through 2022. Soha exported $18 million worth of goods to Russia between October 2022 and the end of July 2023, according to customs data.
Under conditions of increasingly tense international situation, exacerbated every day by the ongoing attacks by Ukraine, which uses US ATACMS missiles and British Storm Shadow missiles to strike deep into Russian territory, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic (pictured) held a “very important” meeting with the Balkan country’s military and intelligence chiefs. As Vucic wrote in his Instagram account, “Serbia must be independent, militarily neutral, and, above all, militarily capable of defending its people from any potential aggressor.”
