State of the Union Address: Biden Attacks Trump, Seeks Leftists

Issues the president touched on: abortion rights, taxes on the rich, immigration, Ukraine, and a port to deliver aid to Gaza

“The State of the Union is strong and getting stronger.” Joe Biden began his State of the Union speech with this message, which is an especially important moment this year, given that there is a presidential election in November where, barring any surprises, he will once again find himself in opposition to Donald Trump, who, in addition to dominating the primaries, is also the favorite in the polls.

And Biden wasted no time in attacking his rival, explaining that “the issue facing our nation isn’t how old we are, it’s how old are our ideas,” emphasizing their closeness in age and explaining that it’s ideas, not a few more “seasons,” that make the difference. In a speech that lasted more than an hour, the President of the United States emphasized that he had strengthened the economy and protected civil rights: “My lifetime has taught me to embrace freedom and democracy. A future based on core values that have defined America. Honesty, decency, dignity, equality. Now other people see the American story of resentment, revenge, and retribution,” he explained, still referring to his rival.

Biden is seeking to establish himself as the progressive candidate, and so he touched on issues such as abortion rights and health care, later rebuking big companies and billionaires who will “finally pay their fair share.”

And next, the great international crises with a message to Putin: “The United States will not back down,” and here, too, there is a reference to Trump, who, on the contrary, would like to “submit to Putin,” adding that Trump’s words about NATO are dangerous and unacceptable. Regarding the conflict in Gaza, Biden explained that “Israel has a responsibility to protect innocent civilians in Gaza. This war has taken a greater toll on innocent civilians than all previous wars in Gaza combined,” and launched an initiative to build a port to bring aid to Gaza, “to establish a temporary pier in the Mediterranean on the coast of Gaza that can receive large shipments carrying food, water, medicine and temporary shelters. No U.S. boots will be on the ground.”
