Days before the Republican primaries, which will be held in South Carolina next Saturday (February 24), the party’s front-runner in the race, Donald Trump, is breaking his silence and mentioning the names of possible vice-presidential candidates if he is re-elected to the White House in November 2024.
Of Trump’s “six possible” vices, incumbent Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is at the top of the list. As the tycoon said during the debates on Fox News, in addition to DeSantis, there will be African-American Senator Tim Scott, “tech” entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Florida House of Representatives member Byron Donalds, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, and former Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii Tulsi Gabbard.
According to today’s U.S. newspapers, “it is unclear whether the list Trump cited should be considered ‘authentic’ or it is a ‘tactical’ response in front of the cameras.”
While polls show that Trump should get between 60% and 70% of the vote even in South Carolina when challenging Nikki Haley, the former American president must face a sudden drop in financial support for his campaign. In January 2024, Trump’s campaign funds grew by $8.8 million, compared to $42 million for his rival Joe Biden. This became known from the financial statements of the U.S. Federal Election Commission. At the end of last month, Trump had “only” $30 million, which is $100 million less than the current White House host’s campaign funds.
