Trump: Supreme Court to Decide on Immunity

Meanwhile, Illinois, following Maine and Colorado, declares him “ineligible”

“Legal scholars are very grateful for today’s Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity. Without immunity, the President cannot adequately operate and make decisions in the best interests of the United States.” This was Donald Trump’s reaction on his Truth social media account to the US Supreme Court’s decision to speak out on immunity. At issue are allegations against the former president of trying to undermine the 2020 election results after losing to Joe Biden. The hearing is scheduled for April 22. This is a victory for Trump, as it pushes the start of the trial further back in time.

Meanwhile, an Illinois judge also declared the tycoon “ineligible” under the 14th Amendment to the Constitution. However, Trump was left on the list of candidates so he could appeal. His lawyers called the verdict “unconstitutional.” Previously, Colorado and Maine declared the former president “ineligible” under the 14th Amendment, which excludes from public office anyone who “participated in or instigated an insurrection.” Trump allegedly did so by supporting, albeit from the sidelines, the attack on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021. For that reason, Trump was heard by the Supreme Court in early February and is yet to issue an opinion.

Despite legal troubles, Donald Trump’s race in the Republican primaries continues apace and unopposed. The gap from Nikki Haley, his only Republican rival, is impossible to close.
