Twitter is on a mission to become the world’s most accurate real-time information source and a global town square for citizens to communicate.
Linda Yaccarino is the new CEO of Twitter. Elon Musk’s investiture took place last week, and over the past few hours, the chief executive has revealed her intentions in a series of tweets.
“Twitter is on a mission to become the world’s most accurate real-time information source and a global town square for communication. That’s not an empty promise,” Yaccarino writes on her page. “We have the opportunity to reach across aisles, create new partnerships, celebrate new voices, and build something together that can change the world. And from what I can tell so far, you’re built for this.”
A declaration of intent has been signed, but this will face what today are the structural problems all social networks suffer from – the extreme speed and freedom in the dissemination of information, which, however, is accompanied by a difficulty of control (inherent in the very nature of the tool) and, therefore, is prone to the spread of “fake news.” This issue further contradicts the reality of Twitter that recently underwent a “purge” form Musk who fired about 80% of its employees.
