USA – Iran: New Talks on Nuclear Program to Be Held in Rome on Saturday

Iran's foreign minister expressed hope for a “fair deal”

On Saturday, April 19, the second round of talks on Tehran’s nuclear dossier between representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America will be held in Rome, Italy. Despite moving the meeting from Muscat to the Italian capital, Oman retains its status as the official facilitator of the talks, whose main objective is to make progress towards a fair, binding, and sustainable agreement.

The second round of negotiations will again take place in an “indirect” format. On the eve of their start, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi (pictured) noted that “the reports coming from Washington are quite contradictory and inconsistent. The meaning of the messages and the objectives sought by Washington represent solely US interests.”

According to the Iranian diplomatic chief, only words spoken at the negotiating table have true meaning: “Iran is fully prepared for these talks. Our position is clear, and we have made it equally clear to the other side. Our words have not changed and will not change,” Araghchi emphasized, calling on Washington to show “the same degree of seriousness and consistency.”
